The Must-Haves of Falls

Shearling swept the Fall/Winter 2016 runways in a more than unconventional way… Lucky for us, the Ready to Wear lines have adapted the extravagant furs into a perfectly attainable statement piece. As neutral lover, I can’t help collecting these pieces in blacks and tans, so they’re easy to style with the popular colors of almost any time of year- except maybe not the midst of summer. I paired my thrifted shearling vest with a boat-neck sweater and contrasted those pieces with shorts to show off my other fall must-have item: over the knee boots. These are the ultimate pair of boots for versatility. They can be worn day or night, on a warm fall day or when the air turns cool after nightfall. I finished off the look with gold jewelry and a bold, berry lip.

Nothing like Summertime Chi

Summer has officially started, which means I’m back in the best city: Chicago. As much as I love Kent State, the atmosphere doesn’t quite compare to the ambiance of a big city. Lucky for me, my internship and free time adventures are allowing me to take full advantage. This outfit combines a few of my favorite elements: black, leather, and, of course, repping CHI. Graphics have been sweeping the fashion scene lately. The right graphic really allows for playful styling and personalized expression. I complemented the urban theme of my tank with edgy leather shorts, a black layering piece, and spiked statement necklace. This look is a great mix to the cliche florals of summer. Chicago may be the Second City but it’ll always be first in my heart.

A Fresh Take on Fringe

Resonating from the 1970’s, fringe has literally taken over the fashion world. Clearly, my style is far from boho:but, I found a way to adapt the fringe craze to fit it into my personal style. Black, white, and gold is one of my personal staples. I used this chic color palette and spiced it up by adding eye catching texture. The fringe from the skirt, shearling in the vest, and leather booties come together to make the perfect aesthetic.

I’m beyond obsessed with these booties. The chunky heels make them super comfortable, and I’m sucker for the gold accent on the heel. ifchic.com might just be one of my new favorite sites. They have endless designer deals in everything from clothing to shoes to jewelry. It’s perfect for the woman who loves contemporary fashion and a fabulous deal!

Rocksbox Jewelry

When it comes to fashion, every detail counts. Each small element of an outfit make the overall appearance. That’s exactly why accessories are such a crucial addition to every wardrobe. We all have our usual go-to pieces, but Rocksbox is here to help you spice them up. By adding personal preferences, a stylist curates a set of jewelry picked just for you. It gives customers a chance to try out fabulous designer pieces with the option to buy or send them back when you’re done! Lucky for you, if you use the kendallbeckerxoxo, you’ll receive your first month free.

To me, jewelry is all about making a statement. I love pieces that are bold and really add to an outfit. “Arm candy” is one of my favorite jewelry trends. You can easily mix higher end pieces with everyday jewelry to create the perfect look. I styled my beautiful House of Harlow cuff with simple bracelets from Forever 21 and statement watch from Charming Charlie’s. I kept the chunky, gold theme consistent throughout by adding an bib necklace from Akira.

Fall Statements

Making a statement is what fashion is all about. With colder weather coming, it’s time to bundle up which can mean hiding some of our favorite pieces under layer upon layer. On the other hand, this also allows the opportunity to make a statement in more creative ways. Finding the perfect jacket, scarf, or pair of boots can completely transform a drab outfit. It’s probably obvious I’m almost obsessed with boots. Finding unique pairs and complementing them with jackets is a great way to make your fall look stand out. Jackets are actually my favorite item to thrift, because there’s so many unique cuts and colors that you don’t always see in the department stores. Don’t be afraid to try something new and make a statement this fall.

The Beauty of Layering

I think everyone can agree that the best part of fall fashion is layering. The weather can range from chilly, grey mornings to summer like afternoons all in one day. The best solution to this: lots of layers. I love this outfit, because it keeps the eye’s attention as the colors and fabrics blend together to create a whole look. I started with the black and white striped skort and added the draped white top to complement the asymmetrical cut. To add a pop of fall color, I layered a burgundy leather jacket perfect for fall mornings. Try an outfit like this for long day on campus or spending time exploring the city!

Fall 2014 Semester Recap

It’s finals week here at Kent State University, so I thought I’d do a recap on my experiences throughout this semester. At the beginning on the school year, I was questioning if KSU was going to be the right fit for me… But after fifteen weeks here, I couldn’t be more thankful to be a part of Kent State University’s Fashion School.

I’ve tried to take advantage of every possible way of utilizing my time at KSU. I joined the Fashion Student Organization, which gets students more involved with the fashion industry than I ever expected. Something is always going on, whether it’s planning a fashion show or having an industry professional come speak to us. I also had the honor of being featured in A Magazine, Kent’s fashion magazine, along with other incredibly talented bloggers. Throughout the semester, I attended fashion shows put on by FSO, Modista, and was able to do press at Her Campus’s College Fashion Week in Chicago.

I’ve already been busy hunting down opportunities for the spring semester. I’ll be working as a representative for one of my favorite stores AKIRA Chicago, as well as another exciting new internship with a Chicago styling company is in the works. To The Nines has been accepted into various affiliate programs, and I’m looking forward to seeing where that goes. I can’t wait for other amazing opportunities to continue to unfold throughout the next few months. Thank you to all the loyal subscribers for reading and supporting my fashion endeavors!
