Inspire Me: Vanessa Hudgens (aka “Queen of Coachella”)

I think we can all agree that the true art of dressing is about letting someone’s personality shine through and reveal their utmost confidence. Vanessa Hudgens has mastered the art of doing just that. Often referred to as the “Queen of Coachella”, I couldn’t think of a better person to draw influence from this summer. Lollapalooza is just a few short weeks away, and the stores are flooded with women of all ages seeking that perfect festival look.

We’ve seen Vanessa’s style grow with her from the sets of High School Musical to Spring Breakers and from her gracing the red carpet to the festival scene. She’s one celebrity that I always keep an eye out for no matter the event. It’s so obvious that she realizes fashion is all about having fun and creativity.

Like many of us, she’s ready to jump on the 90’s trend bandwagon. I’ve loved seeing these trends transform from simple plastic chokers and Converses to intricately crafted chokers and platforms that are bringing unique silhouettes to the shoe game. In a recent interview with Mehera Bonner of Marie Claire, Vanessa explained, “Fashion was playful in the ’90s, and that’s why I love music festivals as well. They have that playful essence.” She also revealed one of the major keys to festival fashion: accessories. “That’s one thing that’s so fun about festivals—you can never go too far with accessories.” I couldn’t agree more. Not all of us are lucky enough to hit the festival scene in VIP, so it’s important to stay cool and comfortable throughout the long days. Thanks to their ease of layering and versatility, accessories are the ultimate way to make your festival look standout.

Festival Fashion

Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at the extravagant style of celebrities during festival season. I’m not an expert on every music festival; but from my experience at Lollapalooza, I don’t think I could last one show in half of their outfits. Celebrities are always seen sporting eccentric high waisted pants, layers upon layers, and heavy fabrics like leather or suede. Somehow Lollapalooza always ends up being the hottest day of the year or has sporadic rain storms that turn the ground into massive mud pits. As much as I love fashion, festivals are also a time to remember practicality.
