The Return of Sweater Season

Crisp air, beautifully dreary days, falling leaves, and the return of layering: fashion’s favorite season is right around the corner. I’ll admit to being overtly fall-obsessed. This week the weather dropped to the sixties with rain showers and grey skies, and I could not have been more excited. It finally meant it was time to start bringing back my seemingly endless collection of boots and sweaters. Before I get too ahead of myself, transitional outfits can be some of the most amusing in the sense of styling. It allows for creativity to flourish and the pairing of pieces together that you wouldn’t instantly expect. During Zara’s End of Summer Sale, I picked up this simple, yet perfect black sweater dress. The material is thick enough to keep warm without a jacket but still thin for layering. I styled it with this season’s must-have over the knee boot and a complementing choker.

The Haul: Winter Break

After spending months in Kent, this break called for a much needed haul. Thanks to gift cards and Christmas returns, I’ve been able to do some shopping at a variety of places; but as usual, the my best scores were found in Wicker Park thrift shops and H&M. I’m obsessed with my new pants from H&M’s winter clearance sale. Originally $50, I got them for $20. I also found a pair of printed harem pants for $10 and a sweater dress for $20. During my thrifting haul, I ended up spending all my money at the first store we went into, Crossroads. This haul was definitely one of my best finds yet! I bought Top Shop booties for $9, J. Crew skirt for $15, Alice + Olivia sweater dress for $28, Hem + Thread top for $13, and a Tinley Road tweed vest for $20. Pictures to come very soon!

Black on Black

I bought this sweater dress years ago, and it’s remained a staple in my fall/winter wardrobe ever since. It’s absolutely perfect, because it’s so versatile. I’ve worn it just about every way possible over the years. It’s been styled over a body con dress and worn as a vest to a simple sweater with leggings and riding boots. This look is definitely one of my favorite ways to style my sweater dress. I love wearing tights with details, because it’s a unique way to break up a solid colored outfit or mix and match patterns. I’m always a huge fan of the all black look, but the gold jewelry and belt coordinated with the lace patterned leggings is a fun way to make all black a bit more exciting.

For the Love of Sweaters

As the weather gets cooler, fashion becomes all about sweaters. Outfits often start to get repetitive with the classic leggings, boots, and oversized sweater combo. One way I like to change it up is with sweater dresses. They’re a great way to bring a usually warm weathered style into the colder months. I bought this sweater dress last year at H&M, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. It has intricate patterned stitching on the collar down to the sleeves which makes it really unique. I also love it, because it’s a perfect way to pull off the winter white look without being over the top. I styled it with a chunky pearl necklace and heather grey boots. For days it’s really cold, tights are a fun addition to the look. Just throw a peacoat over it, and you’re ready to take on a chilly day in style.
